Lots happening in Canadian poker news right now. Daniel Negreanu added another win to his storied career. Meanwhile, the Colossus in Montreal is at the business end of the tournament today.

Negreanu’s Vegas Victory: Omaha Style in Sin City

Daniel Negreanu, Canada’s poker legend, secured his 11th PokerGO Tour title on March 28th, 2025, in Las Vegas. He triumphed in Event #3 of the PGT Pot-Limit Omaha Series, a $5,000 buy-in tournament. In doing so, Negreanu claimed $182,850 after a tense heads-up battle with James Chen. Chen, a peripheral figure in American poker, walked away with just over $115,000 for second place.

Negreanu stood alone as the only Canadian to cash in this Vegas event, a testament to his enduring poker prowess. Earlier this month, on March 5th, 2025, he won the PGT Dealers Choice event, another non-No-Limit Hold’em format. This event, which I reviewed here at CanadianPoker.com, marked his first victory of 2025. These wins bolster his standing near the top of Hendon Mob’s all-time money list at $55.3 million.

Facing a huge chip deficit against Chen, Negreanu mounted a comeback that showcased his resilience and tactical brilliance. There is a long YouTube video of the tournament's action. I embedded it for you below with a recommendation to skip toward the end if you aren't up for over three hours of viewing time.

Heads-up play starts at about the 2-hour and 15-minute mark. Negreanu was behind 16.275M to 3.6M at this point. He would fall behind worse than that before staging his incredible comeback.

The 50-year-old GGPoker ambassador remains a master of both game and persona, blending top-tier skill with a charisma that keeps him a global poker icon. His recent successes in varied formats highlight his versatility beyond the No-Limit Hold’em tables that dominate mainstream attention.

For Chen, you have to wonder if he will be taking a timeout after letting that chip lead slip away.

Montreal’s Colossus Climax: No Limit Hold'em in Kahnawake

Meanwhile, the Colossus at Playground Poker Club in Montreal (Kahnawake) is reaching its climax. Part of the 2025 WSOP Circuit, this $300 buy-in event launched with 11 flights on March 24th, 2025, offering a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool that drew a massive field.

Today, March 30th, 2025, Day 2 concludes, and a winner will soon be crowned. Poker fans should check back tomorrow for a full recap of this Montreal-area showdown.
